John B. Jones Jr., 69, of Petersburg, Illinois, passed away June 15, 2024, at St. John's Medical Center in Springfield, Illinois. He was born March 4th, 1955, to John and Naomi Jones in Springfield, Illinois.
John married the love of his life, Andrea Taylor on October 7th, 1989, in Petersburg. He proudly served his hometown of Petersburg as Chief of Police for many years, where he maintained a close relationship with his community. John took advantage of every opportunity to pull off a good prank. Few were safe from his antics. His grandchildren learned this quickly and were always excited to visit their Papa. Halloween was his favorite holiday; he and Andrea put great efforts into curating as many screams as possible. John loved to laugh! He loved regaling anyone who would listen with stories of skydiving and the many adventures that went along with the hobby. He was skilled and highly knowledgeable with firearms. He rarely missed an opportunity to take his Jeep out for an excursion
